The future is present

The Fiction of Science (in The Future of Fossils Collection) by Lanon Carl Prigge

Fossils don’t belong to the past. Every time I see a fossil, it lies in my present. It is the collective imagination of humanity that keeps inventing a trail of clues through the forest of being. We want to know where we’ve come from to feel secure about where we’re going. By ‘discovering’ fossils, we give ourselves a good backstory.
